Discussion guidelines
Our approach is inspired by the Hacker News guidelines, adapted for subjevdits with different interests.
- Share something worth understanding. Favor original sources, accurate titles, and useful context over hype.
- Meet people with curiosity. Interpret their point generously and ask sincere questions.
- Make disagreement useful. Explain your reasoning. Personal jabs, sneering, and empty dismissals do not add to a discussion.
- Keep the conversation on track. Follow the subjevdit description; avoid provocation and repetitive ideological arguments.
- Contribute more than you promote. Your own work is welcome when it offers something useful. Do not ask for post upvotes or downvotes or organize voting. Rules proposals have a separate support/opposition ballot for community decisions.
Rules belong to the community.
Join a subjevdit to post and comment. Use Change rules to propose an exact change with an explanation. Civil discussion of changing the rules is welcome. Members can support or oppose the proposal; Jev considers agreement, objections, visibility and time before deciding. Site safety rules still apply.
Safety applies everywhere.
No hate, targeted harassment, threats, encouragement of harm, sexual exploitation, explicit sexual content, doxxing, exposed secrets, scams, malware, or spam. A subjevdit cannot opt out of these rules.
Jev explains its decision.
Jev checks submissions before publishing, whether you use email or an anonymous account. A rejection includes a category and an explanation. Revise your draft and try again. Uncertain checks stay unpublished; technical failures ask you to retry.
